Obituary for Jimmy Royce Dennis Sr.

Jimmy R. Dennis, Sr. (83) of LaVernia, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his home, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born September 24, 1932 in Iredell, TX to his parents Keller Aaron Sr. and Sallie (Royal) Dennis. He was one of 12 siblings in the Dennis family. He joined the United States Army in 1950, fought in the Korean War, and then married his beautiful wife, Betty L. Norton, on June 11, 1955 in San Antonio. He worked as a switchman for the Southern Pacific Railroad, where he later retired. After retirement, he spent his time building houses, making cabinets, and tending to his beautiful and bountiful garden. He loved his family more than life and cherished his relationships with his friends.He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty L. (Norton) Dennis; children Jim Dennis, Jr., Joni (Dennis) Witt and husband Tony, Vicki (Dennis) Spessard and husband Gary, Randall Dennis and wife Suzy, Sandi (Dennis) Consevage and husband Joe; brother Keller Aaron Dennis, Jr. and wife Betty; 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Keller Aaron Dennis, Sr. and Sallie Dennis; six sisters and four brothers. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:00am at the Sutherland Springs Cemetery (6961 FM 539 Sutherland Springs, TX) with a graveside service to follow at 11:00 am. A simultaneous celebration of life will be held at San Pedro Park in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Baptist Church of La Vernia, Nurses in Touch Hospice, the American Lung Association, or a charity of choice.
