Obituary for J Lee Rethaber

J Lee Rethaber, of Kingsland, Texas, went on to meet the Lord on Thursday, July 14th. While Lee was on his way home from visiting relatives, his life was taken by a drunk driver.

The world was made brighter by Lee’s presence for 74 years and 23 days. He was the eldest of four sons born in Wilson County Texas to Frank Joseph Rethaber and Fannie Mae (Martin) Rethaber during their 53 years of marriage. He is preceded in death by both his parents and two brothers, Robert Joseph Rethaber of Stockdale, Texas and John David Rethaber of Floresville, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Debra Lee Rethaber, of Kingsland, Texas and two sons, Jay Lee Rethaber of Houma, Louisiana and Kevin Jason Rethaber, of Bremerton, Washington and a brother, James Lanny Rethaber of Dripping Springs, Texas. He was the proud grandfather of 6 grandsons, Jason Eric, Joshua Michael, Kaleb Alexander, Bailey Ryan, Cole Jason and James Marvin, and one granddaughter, Savanna Rose.

A life-long member of the Assembly of God Church, Lee graduated from Stockdale High School and was a Vietnam-era veteran, having served honorably in the United States Air Force. He then furthered his education at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where he majored in Business Administration. As a vocation, he served the State of Texas for many years as a nursing home inspector and later held similar positions with the State of Arizona before returning home to his beloved Texas to retire.

Besides his tireless commitment to family, Lee’s two favorite activities were flying single-engine airplanes and operating his HAM radio. No kinder, gentler soul has walked this earth. Always ready to lend a hand to anyone who asked, he knew how to fix just about anything and had all the tools needed to do just that. He will be sorely missed.

Funeral services are set for Thursday, July 21st at Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale, with interment to follow in Stockdale Cemetery where he will rest beside scores of family members who’ve gone on before him.

Serving as pallbearers are Arno Rennspies, Steve Baumann, James Rethaber, Robert Rethaber, Tim Burrowes and Jacob Burrowes.
