Obituary for Eddie Ray Caraway

Eddie Ray Caraway, age 81, of Bebe, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 in San Antonio. He was born in Nixon on April 28, 1935. Eddie Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Homer J. and Sarah Ann (Martin) Caraway; and a daughter, Debbie Walker. Ed graduated from Nixon High School in 1953, graduated from Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College, and spent two years in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Milk and Dairy Division of the Texas Health Department as a Dairy Inspector for 35 years. Upon retirement, Eddie Ray and Mary Gayle returned to Gonzales County to their farm and ranching operation, raising cattle and corn. He is survived by his wife, Mary Gayle (Benes) Caraway; his children: William “Bill” Caraway, Tim Kardosz and wife Denice, Pamela Kardosz, David Kardosz and wife Sascha; grandchildren: Elizabeth Graves, Danielle Cotar, Russell Caraway, Rosemary Caraway, Garrett Kardosz, Kasey Kardosz, Ashtyn Kardosz, Addyson Kardosz; his great-grandchildren; a sister, Diane Ritchie and husband W.O.; along with numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Finch Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Miles officiating. Interment will follow at the Caraway Cemetery near Nixon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Caraway Cemetery Association.
