Obituary for Bill Don McGlothing

Bill Don McGlothing
Bill Don McGlothing made a peaceful transition to heaven on August 29, 2016. He was born on February 4, 1934 in Gonzales County to parents Virgie Ima Wright McGlothing and Howard McGlothing. He had three sisters, Marjorie Whittaker, Marie Hill, Ima Jean Quinney, and one brother James McGlothing, all predeceased.

Bill went to school in Leesville and Nixon, Texas. He left school to take care of his ill mother; he later received his G.E.D., and went to work for the United States Postal Service at age 18. He retired from the USPS with 42 years of service. At age 23, he was drafted to the United States Army and served two years in various stations oversees.

He married Olga Huebner on December 31, 1956, and they were blessed with four children. Bill is survived by his wife, son Michael Dale McGlothing and wife Sharon, daughters Denise Lynn McGlothing, Audrey Jane McGlothing, and Shannon Lee MacNamee and husband Patrick. He has seven grandchildren: Louis Vera and wife Catherine, Christopher Vera, Allison McGlothing, Megan McGlothing, Amber Greenhill, Fiona MacNamee, and Brenna MacNamee. He will be blessed with his first great-grandchild in September.

Bill was a long time member of Concordia Lutheran Church and in 2001 he and Olga joined Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. He dearly loved his Sunday mornings in church. Bill was an avid deer hunter until he had to give it up for health reasons. Bill raised and sold cattle for many years in Bexar County and in 1992 he bought the McGlothing family homestead that was in his family since at least 1884. This brought him back to his Leesville and Nixon friends that he so cherished. Bill enjoyed gardening, and provided many vegetables for his family, friends, and farmers’ markets. He loved dancing and frequently went dancing with Olga for many years; many folks loved to watch them on the dance floor in perfect synchronicity.

Bill loved the Lord and from being a barefoot boy in Leesville, God helped him through many hardships and blessed him with many riches of family and friends.

The Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 2, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon with visitation held one hour prior to the service.
