Obituary for Robert "Bob" Charles Scull

Robert “Bob” Charles Scull, age 87, passed away on the morning of January 11, 2017 in Floresville, Texas. Bob was born on August 2, 1929 in La Vernia, Texas to Walter Gambier Scull and Catherine (Kate) Darden Neighbors Scull. Bob attended school in La Vernia and graduated in 1947. He attended Texas A&M from 1947-1948. He served 4 years in the Air Force, 2 of them in France, and was honorably discharged. Bob married Betty Jeanne Clements on June 12, 1953. In 1957, Bob graduated from the University of Houston with a BS degree in Business and was employed by the Treasury Department with the IRS for 30 years; 5 years in Harlingen and 25 years in Houston. After Bob and Betty retired, they moved to Wimberley and built a home, where they lived for almost 20 years. In Wimberley, Bob was active in the Lions Club and in the many activities of the First Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, a Greeter, and an Usher as well as serving on numerous Monetary Committees. Born with auburn hair like his mother’s, Bob was a handsome young man. He was especially proud of his first new car; a cataro red Mercury Monterrey. Bob’s father died when he was eleven years old and his mother and older brother were great influences in his life. He was no stranger to hard work, growing up on a farm, milking cows with his twin brother Ross, and working his way through college. Bob and Betty were married 63 years and he took great delight in calling her “Honey Bunny”. Bob suffered from Alzheimer’s disease during the last stage of his life. He loved the Lord and we know where he is today! He is rejoicing with the Lord in heaven and has been reunited with his mother and father; sister, Catherine Iona Scull Welch; brother, Walter Gambier Scull II; and twin brother, Ross Owen Scull, whom have preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Betty Scull of New Braunfels, Texas; daughters, Caren Scull Shaffer of Waco, Texas and Deborah McIlvaine of Wimberley; grandchildren, John Backus of Wimberley; Dr. Allison Grimes and husband Jacob Grimes of San Antonio; Keegan McIlvaine and wife Lauren McIlvaine of San Antonio; and Leslie Shaffer South and husband Eric South of Nashville, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Ayden Grimes, Riley Grimes, Hannah Grimes, Adelaide McIlvaine, McKenzie McIlvaine, Aston McIlvaine, Charles South and Marshall South.
