Obituary for Kathern Irene Wilkinson (Smith)
Kathern Wilkinson was called home on March 4, 2017, at the age of 72. Kathern was preceded in death by her beloved husband, A.C. Wilkinson; her parents, Fred and Kate (Freeland) Smith; sister, Mary Smith; and two brothers: Joe Smith and Howard Smith.
She is survived by her daughters: Becki Wilkinson Van and husband Tom of San Antonio, Cindy Wilkinson Chastain and husband Jay of Lockhart; grandchildren: John Wilkinson and wife Sarah, Crystal Shedrock, Patricia Cox Seufert and husband James, Natalie Laymance, Jeremiah Chastain and wife Hillee, Jacob Chastain and wife Lauren, Kathern Chastain, and Samantha Chastain; and great-grandchildren: Landin, Aiden, Ethan, Dylan, Aaliyah, Danielle, Angel, Lylah, Lyllianna, Devin, Bentlee, Jade, Emily, Jake, J.J., Oliver Archie, K.C., Kaly, and Raven; her sister, Deborah Jameson, two brothers: Johnny Smith and wife Twinkles, William Smith and wife Donna; sister-in-law, Patsy Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Kathern was born October 24, 1944 in Nixon, Texas where she met the love of her life, A.C. Wilkinson. They were married February 10, 1962 and were together until his death. Kathern and Archie did not have a lot of material possessions, but were happy in their lives together. They moved to Alvin, Texas to raise their children and eventually moved to Luling, Texas. She enjoyed her paper routes, attended Dickerson Cosmetology School, and loved the patients she cared for while working as a medication aide in a nursing home. Without a doubt, the brightest light in Kathern’s life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed family time and playing dominoes. Kathern has left this life and this earth, but will never be forgotten as she lives in our hearts and as she goes onto her next journey, reuniting with her beloved Archie and her heavenly family.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the American Legion Hall in Nixon with visitation beginning at noon.
