Obituary for Virgil Marlyn Cowey
Pastor Virgil Marlyn Cowey, 78, of Nixon, Texas, went to be with his Lord on March 7, 2017, in Gonzales Texas. He was born on March 16, 1938, in Gonzales County to his parents Virgil Edward and Aldys Marie (Schnitz) Cowey. On August 22, 1959, he married Betty Jean McFarland, in Gonzales, Texas.
Marlyn is survived by his wife Betty of 57 years; his daughters; Jean Marie Hensley and husband Lester of Austin, Cynthia Williams and husband Randy of Gonzales; four grandchildren: Shelly Polasek and husband Greg, Dustin Marlyn Williams and wife Courtney, Danielle Magee and Chelsey Magee; four great-grandchildren: Kloe Polasek, Luke Polasek, Braelyi Williams and Hunter Williams. He is also survived by his uncle, Wendell Schnitz and wife Helen; numerous cousins, as well as other loving family members and many friends. Marlyn was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. He was the Pastor of Camp Valley Full Gospel Church in Leesville, Texas. Marlyn served as the Controller at Tyson Foods for over thirty years and loved teaching his children and grandchildren his love of math. He loved spending time with his wife and family. His passion was worshiping and serving the Lord, whether it be in church or in his quiet time with God. He had the heart of God for people and desired to see them ensure their salvation. Marlyn loved singing, playing his guitar, working on the farm and fellowship with family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon, Texas, on Saturday, March 11, 2017. The Funeral Service will be held Sunday, March 12, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon, Texas. Interment will follow in the Dewville Cemetery. Pallbearers: Paul Cardwell, Wayne Jackson, Edwin Gawlik, Eldred Peeples, Samuel Caraway, Eric Thomas, and Gene Hill. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Valley Full Gospel Church, c/o Betty Cowey, 302 N. Texas Ave., Nixon, Texas 78140.
