Carmen Luisa Canales, 96, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at home with her loved ones in La Vernia, Texas. Carmen was born on August 17, 1920 Banes, Oriente, Cuba to Graciliano Ferret and Dolores Proenza Ferret. In October of 1947, Carmen married Jorge Luis Canales in Manhattan, New York. Jorge preceded her in death in February 2004. Also, preceding her in death are her parents, two sisters and six brothers. Carmen was a loving wife and grandmother who always had her door open for everyone; no one left hungry. She was hospitable to all. Carmen is survived by her daughters, Carmen J. Ernst (Richard) and Francesca Magallanes (Jose); son, George Canales; brother, Fenecio Ferret (Clara); grandchildren, Matthew Ernst (Taylor), Allison Junco (Jacob), Theresa Butler Le Bobe (Guillaume); great-grandchildren, Maxime and Leo; as well as numerous other loving family and friends. A visitation will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in La Vernia, Texas on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 from 9:00am-10:00am; the Rosary is to be recited at 9:30.
