George “Papa George” Van Zandt, age 65, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at his home in Nixon. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 6, 1952. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy T. (Red) and Fannie E. (Maudie) Leasman Van Zandt; a daughter, Stacey N. Van Zandt-Wagner; and a brother, James R. Van Zandt. George is survived by his wife, Rita DeLeon Van Zandt; his children: Ruthie N. Van Zandt, George A. Van Zandt, Jr. and wife Amanda, Jason T. Van Zandt and wife Crystal, Nathan C. Van Zandt and wife Tabitha, and Jeremiah J. Van Zandt; a brother, Roy E. Van Zandt and wife Linda; two sisters: Ella Mayfield and husband Nathan, Annie Solis and husband Miguel; a sister-in-law, Shirley Van Zandt; grandchildren: Dylan, Katherine, Destiny, Sarah, Robert, Ryan, Desiree, Paul, Daniel, Sarah M.; great-grandchildren: Peyton, J.J., Alicia, Vanessa, Albert and Laura; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; as well as other loving family and many friends. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Finch Funeral Chapel- Nixon.
