Obituary for Otis Scott Pattillo

Otis Scott Pattillo
On July 11, 2017, God called an amazing man to serve him in heaven. Otis Scott Pattillo, age 86, passed away in his home near Nixon Texas. “Uncle Scott” as he was known to all his nieces and nephews, was born in Union Valley, Texas on May 23, 1931. He was always the baby in the family and his older sister Mary George affectionately called him “Wottie Cot” and still does to this day. He enlisted in the Air Force in December of his senior year, and while enlisted he served in Guam. He was honorably discharged in 1953 from the Air Force. Around 1955 he met the love of his life, Erna Ritchie Pattillo. They spent many Saturday nights dancing in local dance halls. Uncle Scott spent six or eight years chasing the rodeo circuit only to find it wasn’t his calling.
On October 10, 1957, he and Erna were married in the First Baptist Church, Nixon. Otis Scott began working for Trans-Texas Airlines in San Antonio, later transferring to Austin and continuing to work for the airline which changed to Texas International and later to Continental Airlines. He retired from the airlines after 33 years. He also drove a school bus for Nixon-Smiley ISD. After retirement, he began serving as a member of Texas Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief. His work with them took him many countries including Sri Lanka, and many of the coastal states of the United States. He was very proud of this organization; Otis Scott was a true shepherd. He and Erna also met many friends through these travels. Otis Scott and Erna were never blessed with children of their own, but instead claimed all the nieces and nephews as theirs. Many memories were made with all of the children spending time with them especially through the summers. These are memories that will never be forgotten. There were many fishing trips made to lakes, rivers and the coast and no trip was complete without Uncle Scott telling his jokes, and giving everyone a hard time. There was never a dull moment around him. Recently he and Erna had been working diligently in the yard, which is now beautiful. Otis Scott was a Deacon in the Baptist Church for over 23 years. He knew God well, and spread the Word everywhere he went. He really enjoyed his Sunday morning visits with Melanie, Leslie, Graham, Laramie and Madyson before church. He and Erna were active members of Smiley First Baptist Church.
Otis Scott Pattillo was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Walton and Ruth Spear Pattillo; a sister John Hensley Beard; a brother Robert “Bobby” Pattillo; and a niece, Linda Patteson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Erna Ritchie Pattillo; a sister Mary George Pattillo Perriman; his nieces and nephews: Marilane Perriman Ray, Scottie Beth Baker, Jeff Perriman, Walter Beard, Marvin Miles, Larry Miles, Dennis V. Patteson, Mark Ritchie, Paul Ritchie, Dana Ritchie, and Wilson Ritchie; as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews and friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 5PM to 8PM at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 14, 2017, at 10AM at Finch Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marvin Miles officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Texas Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief, 5351 Catron Dr., Dallas, TX 75227. tbmwebsite@texasbaptistmen.org.

Arrangements entrusted to Finch Funeral Chapel LLC of Nixon (830) 582-1521.
