Richard Comal  McCombs III
Richard Comal McCombs III of La Vernia, Texas passed away on August 2, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 76. Richard was born on April 4, 1941 in Dilley, Texas to Richard Comal McCombs II and Dorothy Jane (Brooks) McCombs. He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia (Cook) McCombs; sister, Mary Lou Potter; and brothers, James Dixon and Benny Dixon. He is survived by his wife Charlotte McCombs; children, Gaye Hughes, Danna Gilmore, Glen McCombs (Michelle), Mark Anderson (Bea), and Kelly Anderson (Linda); grandchildren, Robert Gilmore, Joshua Gilmore, Jillian Pederson, Glen A. McCombs, Derek McCombs, Hannah Walker, Ashley Anderson, Chase Anderson and Connor Anderson; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne McCombs, Claude Dixon, and Ara Dixon; sister, Dr. Marie McCombs-Samarri; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

Burial will follow at Bexar Cemetery in Somerset, Texas. The Reverend Bret Edwards will be officiant of the services. Richard was employed at the United States Post Office for 30 years. He was fondly known as “Big Mac.” Richard has always been musically involved spreading the gospel of Christ both as a vocalist and bass guitarist. Since retirement, Richard actively played music with several groups. He was always ready to join any jam session. Twice monthly he played at the Veterans Home in Floresville, as well as, at his own church and other churches in the surrounding area. Richard was currently serving as the Chaplain of the United Fiddlers Association, and as Vice President of the Gideon’s International - Southeast Camp. Richard was an encourager and always had a song in his heart and a word of praise on his lips. He was a very special man. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
