Obituary for Col. William E. "Ned" Lammers (Ret.)

Col. William E. "Ned"  Lammers (Ret.)
After a courageous three-year battle, Col. William E. “Ned” Lammers, USAF (Ret.) entered eternal rest on November 11, 2017 at the age of 76. He was born on May 16, 1941 in Topeka, KS to Walter William and Margaret “Peggy” (Morgan) Lammers. Ned honorably served in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force and retired after 35 years. He is a veteran of the Desert Storm Conflict. On October 1, 1988 he married his Forever Love, Gersey Vaughn, at Brooks AFB Chapel in San Antonio, TX. Ned was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers-in-law; and 1 sister-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Gersey Lammers; children, Heidi Wake, Matt Lammers (Selena), Marshall Lammers, Beth Hartung (Scott), and David Wake (Melissa); 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Cindy Boone (Steve); sister-in-law, Betty Vaughn; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and all the church family at La Vernia United Methodist Church. He is special to all of us and will be truly missed. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Behyar Zoghi, MD, PHD, to his support staff, and to the exceptional doctors and nurses at Methodist Hospital where they treated Ned and Gersey like family. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the La Vernia United Methodist Church.

Following the service the reception will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Family Life Building at the church. Pastor Stephen A. Curry will officiate the service. Formal procession will depart the church at 2:00 p.m. for interment at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ned’s name to the Methodist Bone Marrow Clinic, (BMC), 4450 Medical Dr., San Antonio, TX 78229.
