Obituary for Maurine Fay "Mutzie" Lude (Luedicke)

Maurine Fay “Mutzie” Lude, 93, of Weesatche, passed from this mortal life to “life eternal” on December 21, 2017. She was born January 25, 1924, to the late Otto and Rickie Knocke Luedicke. She was baptized in June, 1926 and confirmed on June 30, 1946. After a happy and carefree childhood, she graduated from Goliad High School in 1943. Maurine and Edwin Lude were married on September 10, 1943, at which time she traveled to Pensacola, Florida with him where he was stationed with the Army Air Corps. While there, she worked in a factory ironing uniforms for the army. When, the war was over, they returned to Weesatche but kept in touch with some of the many friends they made in Florida. Back home, Maurine worked in various grocery stores and service stations. She was a dutiful wife and her gentle spirit, kindness and spirit of service complemented her husband’s career of public service. She was very proud of the 20 years she worked in the Goliad ISD cafeteria. Upon her death, one of her friends said that now “she must be happy serving the children in heaven.” “Mutzie” was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church for over 70 years. During that time, she taught Sunday school and was a faithful member of WELCA. She took to heart Jesus’ teachings to love and serve her fellow man. One of her friends called her “the Angel of Weesatche” because she always had time to help anyone in need. She visited the sick and always managed to take them homemade cookies to brighten their day; she visited shut-ins at the nursing home; she delivered food to senior citizens and most importantly she listened compassionately to anyone who came to her with a problem or just the need to talk. She was selfless, warm, and giving, at all times. My mother was my hero! Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin Lude; and brothers, Calvin Luedicke and Alonzo Luedicke. She is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Wauson (Paul); grandchildren, Chelsea Egmon and Colton Wauson (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Caleb and Hallie Egmon. Visitation will be 5-7pm, Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at Finch Funeral Chapel in Yorktown. Funeral services will be held 10am, Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Weesatche with Rev. Kevin Karnei officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrews Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews Gerald Allison, Wade Bolting, Gary Cowey, Glenn Karnei, Garrett Lude and Stephen Schulze. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dianne Harrison and staff at Dover House, Dr. Fabian Espinosa, Hospice of South Texas, and to Pastor Kevin Karnei. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Weesatche, Hospice of South Texas or World Hunger.
