Matthew Curtis Embrey, of Nixon, Texas, left this life on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the age of 34. Matthew was born in Seguin, Texas on August 8, 1983 to Mark Curtis and Cheryl Ann Kuykendall Embrey. Matthew graduated from Nixon-Smiley High School in 2001 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Tarleton State University in 2005. He enjoyed working on the family cattle ranch, where he lived his entire life, and also had taken a strong interest in learning horse training through Downunder Horsemanship. Matthew also enjoyed his many deer hunting trips to South Texas with his father.
From an early age Matthew was an avid reader and loved western novels. He also had a passion for the study of history which he fulfilled through reading, travel to historic sites, and exploring his family genealogy dating back to the 1600s. Matthew dearly loved his nephews, Braden and Randall, and spent many days giving them tractor rides, teaching them to feed cows, and taking many falls in their frequent “light saber” battles.
Matthew is preceded in death by his father, Mark C. Embrey, of Nixon, Texas. He is survived by his loving mother, Cheryl Embrey of Nixon; sister, Christina Ritchey and her husband Brian of Houston; grandparents, Alton and Patsy Kuykendall of Stockdale and Bonnie Embrey of Helotes; aunts, Pam Pettijohn and her husband Paul of Gonzales, Jayne Embrey of Kansas, and Keli Embrey of Helotes; nephews Braden and Randall Ritchey of Houston; cousin, Melissa Rauch and her husband Sam of Pflugerville, and many close friends.
