Obituary for Robert E. Coldewey

Robert E.  Coldewey
Robert E. Coldewey, age 87 of St. Hedwig, formerly of LaVernia, passed away on March 19, 2018 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Robert was born in San Antonio, Texas to Alfred H. and Josephine (Klasek) Coldewey on August 4, 1930. Robert met Annie Marie Luensmann in January,1953 and married in August 1953. On February 18, 1953 Robert was drafted into the Army and served his country faithfully. After returning from Korea, Robert went to work for W. M. Smith at Smith Gas Co. in Floresville where he delivered propane to homes and provided many other propane services as well in the communities of LaVernia and Floresville. Robert retired from Smith Gas in 2000. He was a hardworking man who loved his family beyond measure.

Robert and Annie were blessed with four children. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Annie Coldewey and their children Ralph James (Phyllis), Calvin Wayne (Doris), Melba Jean Govett (Norman), and Allen Ray (Monica), eighteen grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Mary Ann Coldewey, brother Andrew (Berta) Coldewey, a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Melvin Coldewey, his sister and brother-in-law, Minnie and Robert Mazac, his sister Catherine, in-laws Hugo and Ella Luensmann and his godson, Michael Coldewey.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Christopher, Justin, A. J., Kurt, Jeffrey Coldewey and Collin Govett.
Visitation with the family will be held at Finch Funeral Chapel in LaVernia on Wednesday, March 21 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 22 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in LaVernia with Rev. Dr. Robert Palan officiating. Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery on FM 1346.
