Obituary for Edward Allen Bloch

Edward Allen Bloch, age 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2018. Ed was born on April 29, 1940 in Seguin, Texas. He grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1959. In 1994, he moved to St. Hedwig, Texas where he and his wife, Vicki, lived happily ever after. Ed was a Navy man who honorably served his country sailing around the world. He was very proud of the fact that he did a tour on the USS Lexington, now a museum docked in Corpus Christi, Texas. Upon returning home after his service, he met the love of his life, Vicki Lynn Cleghorn and asked for her hand in marriage. They wed in 1965 and lived out their love story for 53 wonderful years. Together, they have three loving daughters, nine awesome grandchildren and three very cute great-grandsons. Ed’s most cherished role was as a husband, dad, grandpa and G-Gpa. Ed’s career began at Holt Machinery in 1963 until November 1987 when he started his own business, Southwestern Welding and Machining. He was a strong businessman, had a great reputation in the industry and considered those who worked for him family. Ed had a passion for the outdoors. He loved boating, fishing and camping. He also liked to travel, especially to destinations that had a casino because Lady Luck always seemed to be on his side. Ed was also a big fan of his Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. But, his favorite team was always the team his grandchildren were on. Whether it was football, basketball, baseball, soccer, band, cheer or dance team, he could always be spotted in the stands cheering them on. Ed’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Ed’s kind spirit, passion for sports, love of the outdoors and his zest for life will live on through them. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Arno and Norma Bloch. He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his beloved wife, Vicki; daughters, Lisa Landin (Dan), Cindi Cowan, and Pamela Caddell (Shane); grandchildren, Allen Arnold, Matthew Arnold, Austin Landin (Peri), Megan Stehle (Brad), Garrett Landin, Lauren Cowan, Jeffrey Cowan, Nathan Cowan and Kaitlyn Caddell; great-grandchildren, Gunner Stehle, Kannon Stehle and Jace Randolph; sister, Shirley Williams; brother, Michael Bloch; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 from 5-8pm at Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, Texas.
