Obituary for Jeanne Hewell Bowen (Mezzadri)

Jeanne Hewell Bowen (Mezzadri)
Jeanne Mezzadri (Hewell) Bowen, 96, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 in New Braunfels, Texas. She was born in New Rochelle, New York on June 16, 1921 to Joseph Edward Mezzadri and Hazel (Doty) Faurot Mezzadri. She graduated from the Ursuline School for Women in 1939. After graduation Jeanne worked as an in-store model for Saks Fifth Avenue modeling the latest clothing industry fashions. She also worked as a volunteer for the American Red Cross during World War II. While volunteering she met Staff Sergeant Thomas Francis Hewell of Nixon, Texas. They married on October 17, 1945 in New York and soon thereafter returned to Texas. She and Thomas Francis, known as “Bubba”, had three children, Tommy, Donna and Joe. She developed her love for hunting and fishing in South Texas with members of the Hewell family. She returned to New York in the year 1972 where she later married Alfred S. Bowen. She served 17 years as a volunteer for the Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, New York. Jeanne was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for 32 years.

She was a passionate, devoted mother who followed her children’s every interest and move in sporting and pageant events. Raised as an only child, Jeanne loved having all of her children’s friends (whom she considered her own) for sleep overs and was the go to mom for trips to school events, the coast and Lake McQueeney. Jeanne had an artistic nature and surrounded herself with beautiful gardens, music and art. She had a discerning eye for fashion and decorating and was an accomplished stand out at both. Always finding the good in people she had a knack for bestowing wonderful compliments to those she encountered. She was generous and caring and led a faith filled life. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her late husband Alfred S. Bowen and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Tommy Hewell & wife Karen, Donna Hewell, Joe Hewell & wife Mary. Grandchildren, Amy Moravec and husband Michael, Jason Hewell & wife Crystal,
Leslie Gregory and husband Van, Joseph Barnes (JB) Hewell, Court Afton Hewell & fiancé Sarah and Katherine (Kate) Grace Hewell. Great-Grandchildren, Megan, Laura and Bridgette Moravec and Cali Hewell.

The family would like to give special thanks to her friend and caregiver Cynthia Garcia of Victoria, Texas,
the Rio Terra Memory Care Staff and Hope Hospice, New Braunfels, Texas.
