Obituary for Janie Salinas (Del Prado)

On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Janie Salinas, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away at the age of 87 years. Janie will be forever remembered for her devotion to her family, faith in Christ, red lipstick, and spunky spirit. Janie was born on August 19, 1930 in Runge, to the late Jose and Leonora Del Prado.

Janie was blessed with a loving family. In 1962 she married her late husband, Antonio Salinas, in Runge, TX. After her husband’s passing she, with the help of her two oldest sons, raised three young sons.

She dedicated her life working with the elderly and the sick. She was very proud of her service to the Yorktown Memorial Hospital where she served as a nurse’s aide. She also worked for home health, Yorktown Manor Nursing Home, and as a private care provider.

She devoted many years to the San Luis Catholic Church. She loved singing in the choir, served as a Catholic Youth Organization Sponsor, and Guadeloupana President.

Janie’s memories will be cherished by her sons Anthony Salinas of Houston, Rene Hernandez and wife Sylvia of Yorktown, Ron Salinas and wife Cindy of Houston, Joe Salinas of Houston, and Carlos Salinas of Houston. She is also survived by her grandchildren Derrick (Heather) Hernandez, Malarie (Isaac) Rodriguez, Adriana Salinas, Christopher Salinas, Noah Salinas, Jonah Salinas, Bradley Seibert, Jonathan Salinas, Michael Salinas, Hanna Salinas, and great grandchildren Cole Rodriguez, Case Rodriguez, Mason Salinas, Cashton, Miliana Salinas, and her brother Joe (Margaret) Del Prado and many nieces and nephews.

Waiting to welcome her home is her beloved husband, Antonio Salinas, parents, sisters, Manuela Madrigal and Herminia Tamez, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation 5-7 pm Sunday, May 20, 2018 with a Rosary being recited at 7 pm at Finch Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass 10:30 am Monday, May 21, 2018, at San Luis Catholic Church, officiated by Father Charles Otsiwah. Interment will be at San Luis Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Derrick Hernandez, Michael Salinas, Chris Salinas, Noah Salinas, Jonah Salinas, Isaac Rodriguez, and family friend Rodney Carrera. Honorary pallbearers will be her sons Anthony Salinas, Rene Hernandez, Ron Salinas, Joes Salinas, and Carlos Salinas.
